WinGPS 6 - 2025 edition
Expected in spring 2025
In 2025, we will continue to focus on ease of use and safety, so that you can navigate without worries. In addition to small improvements that may seem inconspicuous but make your journey more comfortable, there are also a number of larger new features planned. These new features for the 2025 edition of WinGPS 6 will further improve your sailing experience:
- Basic Mode:With one push of a button, you can make WinGPS the most user-friendly navigation software ever. You navigate with a calm and clear screen, on which only the information that you find important is shown.
- Shipping notifications: Currently you can view the shipping notifications on the chart and check if there are any messages that are relevant to your route. We plan to optimize this so that these are automatically included and the route does not, for example, go past a defective bridge. Operating times from shipping messages will then override the standard operating times.
- Track Pilot: Stentec is working on the development of the TrackPilot, an innovative system for pleasure yachts (both sailing and motor boats) with autopilot and AIS, linked to WinGPS on your on-board computer. We expect to make the beta version available in 2025. Click here for more info (only in Dutch).
- Digital twin: There is increasing reliance on the GPS and compass on board. However, annoying interference can occur here. Think of magnetic and electrical interference (such as passing large steel ships), military disruptions or poor reception due to weather, mountains or high buildings. This can give a distorted image on the map and therefore cause unsafe situations. By implementing a kind of smart 'digital twin' in WinGPS, you always see a realistic position and course of your ship, so that you can continue to navigate safely. This will be worked on within the TrackPilot project.
- Preventing bridge collisions: We are working on a new feature that will warn you with a notification or alarm when you are about to collide with a bridge.
- Barometer and water temperature: In the 2025 edition of WinGPS 6 we add the option to read NMEA data from a barometer and water temperature, which you can use to further optimize your routes.
