WinGPS 6 - 2025 edition
Expected in spring 2025

In 2025, we will continue to focus on ease of use and safety, so that you can navigate without worries. In addition to small improvements that may seem inconspicuous but make your journey more comfortable, there are also a number of larger new features planned. These new features for the 2025 edition of WinGPS 6 will further improve your sailing experience:

  • Basic Mode:With one push of a button, you can make WinGPS the most user-friendly navigation software ever. You navigate with a calm and clear screen, on which only the information that you find important is shown.
  • Shipping notifications: Currently you can view the shipping notifications on the chart and check if there are any messages that are relevant to your route. We plan to optimize this so that these are automatically included and the route does not, for example, go past a defective bridge. Operating times from shipping messages will then override the standard operating times.
  • Track Pilot: Stentec is working on the development of the TrackPilot, an innovative system for pleasure yachts (both sailing and motor boats) with autopilot and AIS, linked to WinGPS on your on-board computer. We expect to make the beta version available in 2025. Click here for more info (only in Dutch).
  • Digital twin: There is increasing reliance on the GPS and compass on board. However, annoying interference can occur here. Think of magnetic and electrical interference (such as passing large steel ships), military disruptions or poor reception due to weather, mountains or high buildings. This can give a distorted image on the map and therefore cause unsafe situations. By implementing a kind of smart 'digital twin' in WinGPS, you always see a realistic position and course of your ship, so that you can continue to navigate safely. This will be worked on within the TrackPilot project.
  • Preventing bridge collisions: We are working on a new feature that will warn you with a notification or alarm when you are about to collide with a bridge.
  • Barometer and water temperature: In the 2025 edition of WinGPS 6 we add the option to read NMEA data from a barometer and water temperature, which you can use to further optimize your routes.

What's new and why is it important to you?

Over the past 2 years, quite a few new features have been added, improved and changed in WinGPS 6. This is partly thanks to our enthusiastic WinGPS users, our thanks for this!
Below we have put together a short summary for you of why these new features can add value to you in practice.

Automatic updates and notifications

WinGPS 6 now notifies you when your charts are out of date or not yet fully installed. This way you know immediately whether your navigation system is up-to-date and secure. You can also easily purchase and install new charts from WinGPS.
When the up-to-date charts are installed, they are automatically updated in WinGPS (when you have an internet connection). This also applies to GRIB files.

Automatic detection of GPS and AIS receivers eliminates the need for manual settings.

Why important?
With minimal effort, your system stays up-to-date, so you can always sail safely and carefree.

More convenience when planning your route

The route planner and route explorer have been significantly expanded, allowing you to plan a route to your liking more quickly and to get even more information about your sailing route while sailing.
You can now also easily view shipping messages from countries outside the Netherlands and apply them directly to your route.

Why important?
This way you will not only sail more efficiently (and therefore more sustainably and safely), but you will also be assured that you will be informed in time of any obstacles or warnings.

Enhanced AIS and alarm system features

Only for WinGPS Pro, Voyager and Inland

With the latest version of WinGPS you can now follow AIS tracks in real time, and there is the option to switch off the (T)CPA alarm when your ship or other ships are stationary, or when you are on the same waterway. This prevents unnecessary notifications and ensures a calmer journey. In addition, you can easily look up more information about other ships via their MMSI number.

Why important?
You will only receive relevant notifications, ensuring a safer and more efficient boating experience.

Expandable with add-ons for extra functionality

WinGPS 6 is now expandable with various add-ons, allowing you to tailor your navigation software to your specific boating needs.

  • AIS Class A programming
Program AIS Class A transponders directly into WinGPS, without additional software or equipment.

  • IENC update server for international waters
Easily add extensions for navigation information outside the Netherlands.

Why important?
With these extensions you can tailor WinGPS to what is important to you, without unnecessary functions. This offers flexibility and cost efficiency.
